All teachers at Kaduna State University (KASU) who are participating in the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike that started on February 14 have been threatened with termination by Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

On Wednesday, July 27, the governor gave the lecturers a warning during a radio appearance and urged them to get back to their classes to prevent having their jobs declared vacant.

Given that ASUU’s issues are with the federal government, not the state government, the governor questioned the validity of the lecturers’ participation in the strike.
He argued that the lecturers at KASU had no cause to participate in a strike and that going forward, the state would no longer pay the salaries of lecturers who were on strike.
