- 1: Auchi Polytechnic
Auchi Polytechnic was founded in 1963, first as a technical college which was a gift of the British government to the then Midwestern Region. It offered courses only up to the Ordinary Diploma level in limited areas of engineering and business.
By the seventies, there was a need for skilled manpower at a higher level and in many more disciplines. Thus in 1973, the Bendel State Government upgraded the technical college to a full-fledged polytechnic with the mandate to train skilled manpower up to the Higher National Diploma level in a broad range of engineering, science, environmental studies, business studies and art and design.
The extant law establishing it assigned to the institution the task of producing well trained and highly skilled middle-level manpower for the national economy in the areas of engineering, applied sciences and technology, environmental studies, management studies, and art and industrial design. In 1994, the Federal Government took over the polytechnic from the Edo State Government.
- 2: Yaba College of Technology
Yaba College of Technology was established in 1947 as a successor of Yaba Higher College. It attained autonomous status in 1969 by virtue of Decree 23 which granted it the mandate to provide full-time and part-time courses of instruction and training in technology, applied science, commerce and management, agricultural production and distribution; and for research.
Yaba College of Technology is the first higher institution in Nigeria to establish a Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, with linkages with the world of commerce and industry. The centre offers compulsory courses which must be taken by all students throughout their stay in the college.
Free medical service is provided at the Medical Centre, which is open 24/7. Sports facilities are provided at the sports complex which is located at the centre of the campus. The college has won the Nigeria Polytechnic Games Association five times out of sixteen editions of the competition.
- 3: Federal Polytechnic Ilaro
Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro is a polytechnic based in Ogun State, Southwestern Nigeria.
The institution has five faculties, namely:

- 4: Federal Polytechnic Bauchi
Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi is a polytechnic based in Bauchi State, North-East of Nigeria. It is situated at Gwallameji village Bauchi. The current Rector of the polytechnic is Arch. Sanusi Waziri Gumau.
- 5: Lagos State Polytechnic
The Lagos State College of Science and Technology (now known as Lagos State Polytechnic) was established with the promulgation of Lagos State Edict No. 1 of 1978 with retroactive effect from June 1, 1977.
The Institution commenced classes in January 1978 at a temporary site (now the Isolo Campus) with five Departments namely, Accountancy and Finance, Management and Business Studies, Insurance, Secretarial Studies and Basic Studies. The later offered GCE ‘A’ Level courses in the Arts and Sciences.
On August 1, 1978, the School of Agriculture in Ikorodu was merged with the Institution and it became the nucleus of the present-day permanent site at Ikorodu.
In 1988 and after 10years of existence, Lagos State Government changed the name of the Institution from Lagos State College of Science and technology, (LACOSTEC) to Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH).
- 6: Polytechnic Ibadan
The Polytechnic, Ibadan (typically called “Poly Ibadan”) is an institution of higher learning in Ibadan in Oyo State, Nigeria. Founded in 1970, Poly Ibadan is similar to other polytechnics in Nigeria. The institution was established to provide an alternative higher education to universities, particularly in technical skill acquisition.
The Polytechnic Ibadan is also well known for its unique slogan written in the Yoruba language as “Ise loogun Ise” which means ‘Work (is) the medicine for poverty’, a classical Yoruba adage which stresses that hard work is the way out of poverty.
- 7: Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta
Moshood Abiola Polytechnic also known as MAPOLY is a tertiary learning institution in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. The Ojere campus is in the South-Eastern part of Abeokuta, covering about 960 hectares of rolling land bounded by the Ogun River to the south.
It is named after Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, who was elected President of Nigeria in 1993 but prevented from taking office. The polytechnic was formally established in 1980 as Ogun State Polytechnic during the military administration of Harris Eghagha, but the first set of 220 students was admitted in January 1979.
The Polytechnic started on two temporary campuses, Oke-Egunya and Onikolobo, moving to the Ojere campus between April 1985 and March 1988. By the 2017-2018 session, the student population was 20,878, with about 1250 academic and non-academic staff.
- 8: Federal Polytechnic Ede
Federal Polytechnic, Ede is a Nigerian tertiary institution that was established in 1992. It is located in Ede, a town in Osun State, southwestern Nigeria. It is a National Diploma awarding institution.
- 9: Petroleum Training Institute Effurun
Petroleum Training Institute (P.T.I.) in Effurun, Delta State was established in 1973 by the federal government of Nigeria as a prerequisite for the membership in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to train indigenous middle-level manpower to meet the labour force demands of the oil and gas industry in Nigeria and the West African subregion. It awards General Welding Certificates, ND (National Diploma) and HND (Higher National Diploma) certificates.
The Institute is headed by the Principal and CEO Professor Sunny Iyuke, who last served at the University of Witswatersrand (Johannesburg), before returning to Nigeria to head the institute. He was appointed following the retirement of the Institutes immediate past Principal/CEO – Mr A.j. Orukele.
- 10: Institute of Management Technology IMT Enugu
The Institute of Management Technology, Enugu is a polytechnic college located in Enugu State, Nigeria.

Federal Polytechnic, Bida is a polytechnic school based in Niger State, in north-central Nigeria. It opened in 1977.

- 13: Air Force Institute of Technology Nigeria
The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) is a military school (Nigeria Airforce University) approved by the National Universities Commission to run undergraduate and postgraduate courses in 2018/2019. It supports the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) and civilian communities by the provision of basic training on Aeronautics, aerospace engineering mechatronics engineering and avionics. It is located in Kaduna state, Northern side of Nigeria.
Following the outbreak of the Nigerian civil war, a variety of aircraft types and associated weapon systems resulted in skilled manpower to operate and maintain them. The NAF at that time depended on foreign assistance for manpower development. However, the training vacancies which friendly overseas countries offered the NAF were limited, inadequate and also required huge foreign exchange financing. Consequently, soon after the civil war in 1970, HQ NAF mooted the idea of establishing an indigenous Technical and Supply School.
AFIT was founded in 1977 with the name NAF Technical and Supply School (TSS). It was supported by Messrs Dornier of Germany. The institute was renamed in 1979 as Technical Training Wing and was called NAF Technical Training Group (NAF TTG). The group was tasked with the responsibility of providing basic training for NAF personnel in the field of aircraft maintenance, armament and communication. Others are supply management. By the year 2000, its identity was changed to 320 Technical Training Group (320TTG). It was created to manage aircraft and equipment bought during the Nigerian Civil War in 1967.
The need to keep pace with technological development through an increase in manpower capacity building further led to the upgrading of most of the certificates awarded by the Institution to a National Diploma, with full accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education, (NBTE). The Institute was also affiliated with Cranfield University, the UK for Post Graduate Studies in Aerospace Vehicle Design and related fields and it became evident and necessary to effect a change in the nomenclature to reflect the expanded role of the institute. The Federal Polytechnic, Offa is a Nigerian tertiary institution located in Offa, Kwara State. Established in 1992 during the administration of Ibrahim Babangida, the polytechnic offers National Diploma and Higher National Diploma courses at undergraduate levels. - 15: Kaduna Polytechnic
Kaduna Polytechnic is one of the earliest polytechnics in Nigeria, located at Tudun Wada area of Kaduna South local government of Kaduna State, North-Western Nigeria.
It was established in 1956 as Kaduna Technical Institute after the British Government accepted the upgrading of Yaba Higher College (now Yaba College of Technology) to a technical institute and also proposed the establishment of technical institutes in Kaduna and Enugu through the recommendation of the Higher Education Commission. The polytechnic offers National Diploma and Higher National Diploma courses at the undergraduate level.
