How do schools conduct Post-UTME screening exercise? What is admission screening? These are the few questions that Jamb candidates have been asking after the conclusion of JAMB.
Every University in Nigeria will carry out its screening exercise. While few have started, some have fixed a date while others have not started or fixed a date for the screening process.

The question that runs through the mind of all aspiring candidate is “Will I be admitted?“, including those that scored high in JAMB and have good O’Level result. No candidate wishes to spend an extra year at home but the fact is “More than 70% of those who applied to study in various tertiary institution will not be admitted“.

WHY SCHOOLS CONDUCT POST-UTME ADMISSION SCREENING EXERCISE
Post-UTME is conducted by the school to check the real performance of candidates. Why real? They know some candidates cheat to pass their O’level and UTME examinations.
HOW SCHOOLS CONDUCT POST-UTME ADMISSION SCREENING EXERCISE
The different institution uses a different method to screen candidates. The methods used to screen UTME/DE candidates for admission include:
E-Portal or Online Screening
The aim of the screening exercise is to ensure the validity of your result. Some schools demand candidates to upload relevant documents on their admission portal to cross-check them with the details sent by JAMB. Some of the important documents include:
- O’level result (WAEC, NECO or GCE)
- JAMB result(original)
- Birth certificate
- Certificate of State/LG of origin
- JAMB Direct Entry Registration slip(For Direct Entry candidates)
- Passport
- Online admission screening registration printout
- Jamb details(such as Registration number, subject combined)
Physical Screening
Most schools demand candidates to appear physically at the screening venue on a date fixed by the school. This is where candidates will present the above-listed documents to the school to check for their validity.
NOTE: Some schools demand Online and Physical screening at the same time.
Oral Screening
Schools also conduct screening in form of an interview for candidates. They are usually asked some questions.
Test Screening
In this case, candidates sit down for a test conducted by the school.
NOTE: Interview Screening and Test Screening are usually conducted for Direct entry candidates. Since JAMB has issued a warning to all institution to stop conducting any form of examination for UTME candidates, Online and Physical screening are used usually used for UTME candidates.
Yet, some schools still conduct examination/interview for UTME candidates, so don’t be surprised if you come across any. This is popularly called Post-UTME.
