The Vice Chancellor of Bells University of Technology, Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran, has provided an explanation of Why JAMB Cut-Off Mark Is Low and the primary causes of the reduction in the cut-off scores for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UMTE).
Ojediran pointed out that the choice would level the playing field for applicants.
On July 21, 140 seats were set aside for universities and 100 seats for polytechnics and institutes of education by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and heads of tertiary institutions.

Ojediran stated that the caliber of education would not be impacted by the ongoing lowering of UTME cut-off points.
When it comes to the standard of admission, he continued, the results of the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) are what actually count.
The VC stated that institutions that desire to set their cut-off marks below the 140 required by JAMB should lower their institutional cut-off grades.
Ojediran noted that the five O-level credits are what makes a student eligible, with the JAMB score serving as a prerequisite.
According to him, some students who attend universities with a 180 score go on to graduate with the highest GPAs or make First Class.
The VC said, “We have also seen kids who achieved 360 on the JAMB but were unable to compete with people who scored 180.”
